This Star Trek-style replicator makes meals in 30 seconds

Star Trek fans are familiar with the Replicator device, which synthesised meals and beverages on demand. That technology may not have been so far-fetched after all.

An Israeli company created Genie, a counter-top machine that transforms food pods into meals in seconds. Once a food pod is chosen and placed within the machine, it takes just 30 seconds to create a “freshly baked dish."The pods themselves look like tubs of ice cream. They’re packed with natural ingredients that have been freeze dried. This means that they’ll last for a year or more.Genie’s creators are confident that the gadget will help us eat better. In the future, it may even be able to learn our dietary needs and prepare meals just for us.
