Nokia has no plans to manufacture phones
It posted a statement on its website to deny these reports. The statement reads, “Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false. Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets."This doesn’t mean the end of Nokia branding on mobile phones. Nokia is looking into returning to the smartphones business by brand-licensing. It launched a new brand-licensed tablet computer, produced under licence by Taiwan's Foxconn just months after it sold its phone business to Microsoft last year. However, Nokia agreed with Microsoft not to enter the mobile phone business before 2016. What happens after 2016 is fair game. Nokia may not return to manufacturing phones, but if you’re an avid Nokia fan, mark 2016 in your calendar. Nokia has plenty of time to mark its return in some capacity with a bang.
Nokia has denied reports that it will start manufacturing phones again. However, it will look at returning to the smartphones business by brand-licensing.
