This comes from director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) and Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister) so we know we're in horror territory. It is the director's first found footage film but his interest in slow creeps and terrifying imagery probably makes it a good decision for the filmmaker. It will also be a PG-13 in the States, so he's going to have to work more on jump scares than gore, which might also be a good thing.
That said, Shyamalan has directed 9 features to date and the last one which could be described as watchable was 2004's The Village. Since then we've had The Happening, The Last Airbender and the horrorshow which was After Earth. Maybe he can turn it all around?
Oh and we really hope this isn't just a found footage retelling of Hansel and Gretel - though there are a couple of clues pointing there...
The Visit is in cinemas in September 2015.
