Facebook said that the headset is still in the development stage. It says that this means “it's too early to be talking about large shipment volumes." Facebook may not have announced any specific plans, but it sounds like we’re unlikely to get a consumer version of the VR headset before the year is out.The company appears to be keeping its cards close to its chest. Last month, Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer said that VR would be out this year. But he later clarified his statement, tweeting that referring to PC hardware capabilities rather than announcing a release window for the Oculus Rift.Perhaps Facebook will surprise us with a consumer version of the Oculus Rift just in time for Christmas. But, for the moment, we’re not going to reserve a spot for it on our Christmas wishlist.In Short: Facebook made an announcement during its Q1 Earnings Call that suggests that a consumer version of the Oculus Rift VR headset will not be released in 2015.
