Star Wars Rogue One plot confirmed - and there's even a really early teaser video!
So it's likely that Episode 8 will follow in December 2017 and Episode 9 in 2019 but that's not all we have to look forward to as Disney has confirmed the new imprint of the Star Wars Anthology series. These films are set to explore new characters and situations in this galaxy far, far away, and the first will arrive in cinemas in late 2016.The full title is Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One and we've finally got official word on what it's going to be about. It has been rumoured before but the film will centre on a band of mercenaries and other characters who work together to steal the plans for the origial Death Star. That puts the timeline of this film between Episode III and Episode IV - so basically not long before Luke Skywalker heads off on his amazing journey.Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will direct Rogue One and he's been talking about it as more of a war film than the rest of the Star Wars saga. We can expect a film that's less epic in scope and scale perhaps, and more about survival at the fringes of the amazing world's we've been visiting for almost 40 years.Felicity Jones takes the lead role here, fresh from her Oscar nomination for The Theory of Everything. Rogue One will be the first Star Wars film to have a single female lead, with this universe having given little attention to female stars in the past. Edwards was on stage at the Star Wars Celebration to talk about the film and he brought along something very special - an actual teaser trailer. Here's some footage a fan managed to grab.
