Whiplash director could nab Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling for new film

Damien Chazelle already wowed everyone with drumming-drama Whiplash so all eyes will be on his follow up which could star Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling

In case my insanely postitive 5 star review of Whiplash didn't make it obvious, I think it's easily one of the best films of the year and maybe even of the last few years. So I'm eagerly anticipating what's to come from young writer/director Damien Chazelle, and it sounds like it could be big indeed. The project is called La La Land and would be a musical set in modern day Los Angeles. The script comes from Chazelle and it sounds like he wants to make a film in which the pressures of modern-living and the LA scene are expressed by the characters through song - something which would lend some extra magic to the already unreal feeling created by musicals. Here's what the filmmaker had to say to /Film. "I’d like to make a contemporary musical about L.A., starting with the L.A. we know but slowly building to a vision of the city asromantic metropolis–one that is actually worthy of the dreams it inspires. I’d like to make a musical about the way L.A.’s peculiar rhythms can push its residents to the edge of their emotions–be they hope, desperation or love. Think the kind of teetering-toward-madness you see in “The Graduate” or “Boogie Nights”, and imagine if you were to push that further. In this case, the city pushes its residents all the way: it pushes them into song."Originally Whiplash star Miles Teller was rumoured to be up for the mail lead but that plan seems to be changing now with two new names attached in the dlightful pairing of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They've worked together before and made for a delightful couple in Crazy Stupid Love so it would be great to see that chemistry again. Teller was originally rumoured to by playing opposite Emma Watson and my gut feeling is the best possible pairing would be Stone and Teller, but Gosling in a musical does intrigue me.Everyone involved has a lot of projects on the boil so we're still at the rumour stage but with the film aiming to go into production before the end of the year we'll certainly be getting some news soon.Whiplash will be on DVD and blu-ray on the 1st of June 2015.- Daniel Anderson. In Short: Damien Chazelle already wowed everyone with drumming-drama Whiplash so all eyes will be on his follow up which could star Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling
