Jake Gyllenhaal packs a mean right hook in Southpaw trailer

The first trailer has been released for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Southpaw, showing that the actor lived in the gym after shooting Nightcrawler.

The trailer is a bruising affair with Billy Hope (Gyllenhaal) soaking up as much punishment as he dishes out. As you can see from the trailer, which reveals quite a bit of the plot, the film will dip between Hope’s personal and professional life. The storyline of the film focuses on a boxer fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him. That’s all we’ll say, but you can see much more in the trailer.What’s quite striking about the trailer is Gyllenhaal’s own physical transformation. He’s packed on weight and been pumping iron after wrapping Nightcrawler, when he played the gaunt Louis Bloom.
