Irish film industry has 'exceptionally strong' 2026

Screen Ireland-supported productions received millions in corporation tax credits this year, figures show

Productions made here set for Netflix starring the likes of Robert Sheehan, Aisling Bea, Adrian Dunbar and Lupin actor Omar Sy have received millions in corporation tax credits from the Revenue Commissioners this year.

New figures provided by Revenue confirm that during the first six months of this year, 103 productions have received payments under Section 481 of the Tax Consolidation Act.

Asked to comment on the figures, head of marketing, communications and public affairs at Screen Ireland Louise Ryan said: “The Irish screen industry is experiencing exceptionally strong production activity, driving high levels of job creation within the sector.” 

Currently in one of the country’s main studios, Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow, Season 3 of one of Netflix’s most successful ever shows, Wednesday, is filming along with Viking drama Blood Axe, which is to be shown on Prime Video.

Ms Ryan said: “To date this year, 29 Screen Ireland-supported projects have gone into production right across the country, and we expect over 25 more projects to go into production with our support through the end of 2026.

She added Screen Ireland-supported projects which have gone into production this year include Lenny Abrahamson’s new film starring Eve Hewson and Tom Burke, Colm Bairead’s latest film MaryRose, and the latest series of Kin, which has just been green-lit.

“From major international television series and feature films to ambitious Irish productions across drama, documentary and animation, the scale of activity reflects the screen talent working in Ireland right now and Ireland's reputation as a world-class location for screen production," Ms Ryan said.

High levels of production of activity also reflect the Government’s strategic policy to establish Ireland as a global centre of excellence for the creative screen industries.

Ms Ryan said this pipeline of productions was supported by the Section 481 tax incentive, which, she said, was central to attracting and retaining screen production investment in Ireland.

She added Screen Ireland figures show production spending contributed a record €544m to the Irish economy in 2025, representing a 26% increase on 2024.

The Revenue Section 481 figures for January to the end of June show Netflix action thriller, Mercenary: An Extraction Series, led by Lupin actor Omar Sy, received corporation tax credits of between €5m to €10m this year.

The figures also show Grown Ups, an eight-part drama series based on the best-selling novel by Marian Keyes, has also received a corporation tax credit of €5m to €10m.

Grown Ups stars a number of well-known Irish stars — Sarah Greene, Barry Ward, Aisling Bea, Robert Sheehan and Adrian Dunbar.

Another production that has received tax credits between €5m and €10m is an upcoming supernatural thriller Other Mommy, starring Oscar-winner, Jessica Chastain and Jay Duplass.

The movie — adapted from Josh Malerman's novel Incidents Around the House — was shot on location in Dublin and Wicklow.

Productions to receive corporate tax credits between €2m and €5m during the first half of this year include Drummer Boy, a US Revolutionary War-set action-musical, and a Headful of Ghosts, a psychological horror film starring David Harbour and Rebecca Hall.

Another production to receive tax credits between €2m and €5m this year is the second series of detective show Lynley.
