Spending on Black Friday by Irish consumers was up 6.5% this year, while there was also a surge in attempted fraud, according to Visa.

The international payments firm said it blocked 57% more suspected fraud attempts in 2025 compared with 2024. Common scams Visa identified included fake shopping sites, package delivery scams, “extra holiday cash” job scams, travel fraud, and holiday charity scams.

Visa said its scam disruption team identified and blocked more than €220m attempted fraud attempts in Europe over 12 months, with over €860m of attempted fraud blockedglobally – in scam attempts before they could impact consumers.

Meanwhile Ireland's 6.5% extra card spending splurge on Black Friday was the fourth highest growth for the shopping day across all of Europe, said Visa. “Black Friday continues to be one of the busiest periods for retailers in Ireland, and this year is no different," said Visa Ireland country manager Conor Langford.
