Ireland among lowest in EU for job vacancies
Ireland’s job vacancy rate stands at 1% which is slightly higher than Bulgaria and Romania, both at 0.7%, as well as Spain and Poland, both at 0.8%.
The job vacancy rate across the EU has dropped to 2.5% with Ireland having among the lowest across all members, new data from Eurostat shows.
In addition, the employment rate among 20- to 64 year-olds across the EU ticked up slightly by 0.1% to 75.5%.
Job vacancy, as defined by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), is where there is a job currently unoccupied or a position is about to become vacant and is being advertised.Â
According to Eurostat, during the last three months of 2023, the job vacancy rate among EU members stood at 2.5% — down from 2.8% during the same period in 2022.

The data shows that Ireland’s vacancy rate stands at 1% which is slightly higher than Bulgaria and Romania, both at 0.7%, as well as Spain and Poland, both at 0.8%.
In contrast, Belgium has the highest job vacancy rate at 4.4% followed by the Netherlands at 4.2%, Austria at 4.1% and Germany at 3.9%.
