FIRST-time buyers are going bats for No 54 Tiffany Downs in Bishopstown, a home where the Caped Crusader holds a special place on the back lawn.

More than a baker’s (Batman’s?) dozen showed up for the first day of viewings, with similar numbers pencilled in for subsequent days.

“It’s primarily first-time buyers, and the interest level is high,” says Garry O’Donnell of ERA Downey McCarthy.

Sparking the interest is the combination of an attractive price point — €350,000 — and a solid neighbourhood.

An extended, three-bed, end-of-terrace property, potential buyers like the extra space to the rear, where the addition of a sunroom was transformational.

Natural light floods through its extensively-glazed walls, with two full-height sliding doors opening to the back garden.

An apex window in the vaulted ceiling brings in even more light, complemented by four Veluxes. The sunroom, added about 10 years ago, adds significant volume to what was a standard kitchen-dining area.

The owners made further modifications, adding an enclosed storage space to one side of the house. A block-built shed to the rear provides more storage and doubles as a utility.

Centre stage on the artificial rear lawn is a Batman logo.

The ownersare trading up in the general area and, as the house has been owner-occupied, no rent cap applies, which could make it an attractive option for investors.

Its location in the heart of Bishopstown, means it’s convenient to CUH, MTU, UCC, and Wilton shopping centre. The most recent Tiffany Downs’ sale on the price register shows No 73 sold for €364,000. Mr O’Donnell said another home in the estate, which hasn’t yet made the register, sold for €430,000.

VERDICT: House hunters need the mental strength of Batman to stay the course. If you’re in the hunt for Tiffany Downs, remember his words: “I have one power, I never give up.”
