Price hikes across staple food items see costs of full Irish breakfast rise by 3.1%
CSO found the total price rose from €27.20 in January 2023 to €28.03 in 2024.
The cost of cooking a full Irish breakfast has risen once again with figures released on Friday from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showing further hikes across staple items in a traditional fry-up.
Publishing its annual costs of a family-sized full Irish ahead of St Patrick's Day, The CSO said the price of cooking a traditional fry had risen by 3.1% in the 12 months to January 2024.
Combining the costs of staple items such as eggs, pudding, rashers, sausages and more, the CSO found the total price rose from €27.20 in January 2023 to €28.03 in 2024.

However, the CSO noted that "no traditional family fry-up would be complete without bread and butter, all washed down with a cup of tea or glass of milk."
Adding further staple items including bread, butter, tea and milk, the costs of a traditional Irish breakfast rose even further, increasing to €38.79 in January 2024, which was up by 2.3% over the 12 months to January 2024.
The cost of 80 tea bags and two litres of full-fat milk had risen from €5.17 to €5.30 in the 12 months to January 2024, up 2.4%.
The CSO added that the costs of a large white sliced pan and 1lb of butter had gone down from €5.50 in January 2023 to €5.40 in January 2024, reflecting a 1.8% decrease.
"In fact, the only items to fall in price over the 12 months to January 2024 were bread, butter, and milk," the CSO said.
