Electric car registrations surge 45% as market share grows
"While the Government is on course to reach its target of 175,000 private EVs on Irish roads by 2025, the overall share of the market for zero-emission vehicles remains pegged at just under 20%, effectively making it mathematically impossible to hit the 2030 goal of 945,000 EVs," warns Ireland and UK Vice President of telematics firm, Geotab, David Savage
The number of electric cars registered in Ireland surged by 45% in what has been called "a year of progress" for the motor industry.
Releasing its annual figures for 2023, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) found that electric vehicles now make up around 19% of the market share, with a total of 22,789 registered last year.
