Dublin Airport records its busiest month on record 

Airport operator Daa said the airport’s performance last month reflected the peak summer holiday season, with schools closed for the summer and large numbers of families travelling overseas

During the first seven months of this year, just under 22 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport — an increase of 5.2% year-on-year.

Dublin Airport had its busiest month in its history during July, with more than 3.8 million passengers travelling through its terminals, up 2.3% compared to the same month last year, its operator Daa has said.

In total, 3,839,635 passengers travelled during the month, marking the 16th consecutive month of passenger growth. Every day in July saw more than 100,000 passengers travelling through the airport, with the busiest day being Sunday, July 12, with 133,472 passengers.

During the first seven months of this year, just under 22 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport — an increase of 5.2% year-on-year.

In previous years, growth at Dublin Airport had been constrained, as it had to adhere to a passenger cap of 32 million, which was imposed by Fingal County Council as part of its planning permission approval. Enforcement of the cap has been suspended while airlines challenged the restriction in the European courts.

However, this court process may no longer be necessary, as last month, President Catherine Connolly signed Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Act 2026 into law, which gives the minister for transport the power to address the passenger cap at Dublin Airport.

Daa said the airport’s performance last month reflected the peak summer holiday season, with schools closed for the summer and large numbers of families travelling overseas.

The airport also welcomed significant numbers of inbound tourists choosing Ireland for their summer holidays.

The closing stages of the Fifa World Cup also drove demand from passengers from across the UK and Europe, who availed of Dublin Airport’s US preclearance facilities.

Managing director of Dublin Airport Gary McLean said on average, about 123,000 passengers walked through our doors every day of July.

“This high level of traffic is now the norm during the peak summer period… Despite this, we continued to deliver an excellent operational performance, with 93% of departing passengers passing through security in under 20 minutes.”
