A €2m floodlighting upgrade at Croke Park installed by a Cork electrical company will get its official switch-on at this weekend's NFL spectacular in Dublin.
Pittsburgh Steelers will go head to head against the Minnesota Vikings at 2.30pm on Sunday at Croker in a match that will be beamed around the globe and is the first official NFL regular season game to take place in Ireland. NFL games run for more than three hours, and the new lighting will debut during the game.
McSherry Electrical based in Mallow has provided lighting to some of the biggest stadiums in Ireland and the UK as electrical contractor in partnership with Musco Lighting. Previous projects include lighting solutions at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Aviva Stadium, Wexford Park, and the Sportsground in Galway (now called Dexcom Stadium).
The company will be working with one of England's leading Premier League clubs in an upcoming project.
The €2m sustainable LED lighting upgrade at Croke Park replaces the stadium’s original 2007 incandescent system with custom-engineered lighting with higher energy efficiency, broadcast-quality lighting, and reduced maintenance. "We’re thrilled to work alongside Musco on this landmark installation," said McSherry Electrical managing director Neil McSherry. "Croke Park holds a special place in Irish life, and we’re proud to play a role in its evolution through sustainable, future-focused solutions."
"Upgrading our floodlights to a state-of-the-art LED system is a major milestone in our drive for sustainability and innovation," said Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna. "This system enhances playing conditions, improves energy efficiency, and ensures Croke Park continues to deliver world-class events while reducing our carbon footprint."
McSherry Electrical was founded 39 years ago by Neil's father Brian and now employs 80 staff. The company has diversified from processing and manufacturing industries into sectors including food and beverage, transport and infrastructure, cleanroom environments, and sports and leisure.
