Cork engineering firm wins award for €215m Dunkettle Interchange design
The firm was the lead consultant on the €215m Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade scheme for its design to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow at a point where four national roads meet.
Cork engineering consultancy Fehily Timoney and Company has won the Engineering Excellence Awards Project of the Year for its design work on the €215m Dunkettle Interchange.
Fehily Timoney and Company, based on Pouladuff Rd, claimed the award from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI). The firm was the lead consultant on the €215m Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade scheme for its design to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow at a point where four national roads meet.
"These projects are incredibly challenging and rewarding. They drive innovation and they technically challenge us. It is wonderful that it received the recognition it truly deserved," said managing director Sinéad Timoney.
“We are immensely proud of Beren De Hora, project director, and Tom Clayton, FT project manager and geotechnical lead, for delivering this project for Fehily Timoney and Company."
The Dunkettle Interchange work was carried out by John Sisk & Son Ltd, with Fehily Timoney and Company as their lead designer.
Last December, the British Geotechnical Association awarded the coveted Fleming Award to Fehily Timoney and Company and its project partners for addressing geotechnical challenges on the Dunkettle project.
Fehily Timoney and Company employs over 100 members of staff, including engineers, scientists, town planners, geotechnicians, ecologists, and technical support staff across offices in Cork, Dublin, and Carlow.

“We’re continuing to build and strengthen our planning and environmental services, engineering design and construction presence in the sector. We’ve grown 35% over the past five years, and look forward to continued success and growth.”
