Cork-founded pet retailer Maxi Zoo expands further with opening of 33rd Irish store

Group now employs more than 350 people across the country

Long-standing Cork pet store franchise Maxi Zoo has opened its 33rd outlet in Ireland as the firm expands services further across the country.

First established in Ballincollig in 2006, the speciality pet retailer has grown significantly with nine stores in Dublin and five in Cork. The company operates across 16 counties in total.

The firm's most recently opened store in Nutgrove, Dublin will add a further nine employees to the group's workforce, bringing the total figure employed close to 100 people in the capital and more than 350 across the country.

In Cork, the pet retailer operates stores in Ballincollig where it is headquartered, along with Blackpool, Mahon, Midleton and Turner’s Cross.

"We’ve had a fantastic Q1 and Q2 of 2024, with a number of store openings around the country," said Anthony Cremin, Head of Marketing at Maxi Zoo Ireland.

"We opened our fifth store in Cork late last year, and we now have 10 stores in total across Munster with outlets in Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary and Limerick."

The company saw its annual turnover rise by more than 30%, according to most recent accounts filed to the Company's Registration Office, increasing to more than €45m in the twelve months ending in December 2022.

The company's pre-tax profit rose to more than €2m, up 12% on the previous year.

Since its inception in Cork 18 years ago, Maxi Zoo has evolved into Ireland's largest specialty pet retailer, boasting a diverse range of over 8,000 products for pet owners.
