The turbulent days of 2008 still echo vividly in the Irish financial memory — a period when the economy entered a severe recession due in large part to a property bubble, followed by a collapse in the domestic financial system. 

It was a time when operating any kind of business required a degree of self-belief that was thin on the ground during that challenging era.
