Ireland has become a net contributor to the EU Budget for the first time.

It is reported that in 2014, the last year for which full data is available, Ireland paid €168m more to the Union than it received in grants and payments.

The Irish Independent reports that the country contributed €1.69bn, while receiving €1.52bn.
