Dublin city sees 5% jump in Black Friday sales

Black Friday sales were up around 5% in Dublin city centre this year, despite a drop in the number of shoppers.

548,000 people hit Dublin City Centre in search of sales last Friday - down 1.5% on last year - but the drop is being put down to bad weather from Storm Clodagh.

Retail Ireland is expecting the best Christmas in seven years, with sales to reach 4 billion euro - a 3.5% increase on last year.

The CEO of Dublin Town Richard Guiney has said spending is up and people were seeking out bargains.

“The spend was up,” said Guiney.

“About two-thirds of the shops are saying that the sales were up on the pervious year despite having less footfall.”
