UPC to become Virgin Media Ireland

UPC, one of the country's leading broadband and entertainment companies, announced plans today to rebrand under the Virgin Media banner.

Richard Branson , Virgin Group Founder, said: "We are delighted to bring the Virgin Media brand to Ireland," said Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group.

"We are proud of the way it has revolutionised the UK market, improving customer service, increasing speeds and bringing more choice to our customers. Building on the strong platform in Ireland, I know we will do great things together with [UPC parent company] Liberty Global and shake up the Irish market even further‎."

The company said the Virgin Media rebrand will allow it to make "further progress" in developing services. All current customers and products will transfer to Virgin Media, with details to be announced in the near future.

Magnus Ternsjö, CEO of UPC Ireland, said: “In almost every corner of the world, the Virgin brand is famous for its entrepreneurial spirit in delivering more for customers, which is exactly what we’re going to do by building even further on all our innovation and achievements to date.”

UPC Ireland, part of Liberty Global, was moved under the Virgin Media umbrella (also owned by Liberty) in December 2014. Liberty purchased Virgin Media UK in 2013 - making UPC's rebrand a consolidation of the British and Irish branding.
