Aer Lingus takeover would 'enhance Ireland's role as a hub for travel across the Atlantic'
The Minister for Transport says IAGs proposal to buy Aer Lingus remains under consideration by the Government.
In a statement issued this evening, Aer Lingus said it would be able to create more jobs if it was taken over by IAG; and the airlines directors said they're fully supportive of the proposal.
They say the takeover would enhance growth on both long and short-haul routes, and enhance Ireland's role as a hub for travel across the Atlantic.
However they can't formally recommend a bid for the moment, as IAG hasn't officially made its offer.
Minister Paschal Donohoe, who met representatives of both IAG and Aer Lingus, says he notes this evenng's statement from Aer Lingus.
