Retail Ireland: Sector showing signs of recovery

The retail sector is showing signs of recovery, according to Retail Ireland.

The group's annual conference will be opened by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny this morning, which will hear that the volume of sales has increased in the past year, but the value of sales remained the same.

The umbrella body will urge the Government to cut income taxes in order to boost the sector further.

Retail Ireland's Stephen Lynam says most people are still struggling with finances which means they aren't spending in shops.

He said the tax burden is "too high" with tax on work in Ireland "way out of line internationally" and urged the Government to reduce income tax in the next Budget.
