Digital tourism app Keyquests creates jobs in Cork

Ten new jobs have been created in Cork with the launch of a new digital tourism company.

Keyquests is a technology tourism app and website which provides tourists with special offers by checking-in at tourist locations using the smartphone app. It also provides suggested tourism itineraries in the form of "quests" for users.

Creator Gillen Joyce already has tourism industry experience as MD of the Titanic Experience in Cobh, and secured funding for the project through the South and East Cork Area Development fund and private investors.

The company has now hired six full-time staff and are actively recruiting four more.

“The concept behind Keyquests came to me when looking through holiday photo albums last year. Photos tell one story, but technology allows us now to tell our own unique stories and to create and share our experiences online,” Joyce said.

“The premise behind Keyquests is simple; while many holiday makers know where they want to go and what they want to see, many more don’t. At Keyquests we aim to take the stress away from planning your travel itinerary, recommending routes to follow, providing attractive offers and incentives along the way, and enabling holiday makers to create, design and choose their own quest or travel itinerary.”

"Families love the Keyquests treasure hunts, which bring Ireland's amazing sites to life and make it fun for young and old. Similarly backpackers enjoy creating their digital passports, which will be integrated with social networking sites."

Areas already registered in the app include Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Castle, Fota Wildlife Park, and 32 Office of Public Work sites, among others.
