Ryanair to sell Aer Lingus stake

Ryanair has confirmed that it will sell its stake in Aer Lingus.

The airline said the move to sell the 29% share is part of ongoing remedy discussions with the UK Competition Commission.

Ryanair have refuted the British body's concerns that because of their shares they have influence over Ireland's national carrier's commercial strategy, therefore lessening competition.

The low cost carrier maintains during the six and a half years of owning nearly a third of Aer Lingus, competition has intensified between both airlines.

This remedy removes any ability by Ryanair to block any future takeover of Aer Lingus by another EU airline.
