The euro briefly dipped in value after the Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced that Ireland is to hold a referendum on the European Fiscal Compact.

The single currency slipped below $1.34c on the international money markets, but later pulled back, prompting analysts to suggest that it was a knee-jerk reaction.
