IBM buys Irish software company Curam

Computer giant IBM has purchased Irish company Curam Software for an undisclosed amount of money.

Curam develops software for use by Governments in areas such as social welfare payments.

It currently employs 700 people around the world. The company says those jobs are safe, with possible room for job creation in the future.

Chief executive of IBM Ireland Peter O'Neill said the deal was a demonstration of IBM's long-term commitment to Ireland.

"It's one of a number of investments we've made over the last few years in Ireland. There's no question that Ireland is seen as a strategic location for investment for BM," he said.
