EMC has reported an 18% increase in global third-quarter revenues over the same time last year.

The US technology giant, which employs 2,500 people in Ireland and 50,000 people worldwide, today said third-quarter consolidated revenues were $4.98bn (€3.63bn) - an increase of 18% compared with Q3 2010.

EMC’s third-quarter net income increased 28% year over year to $606m.

In Ireland, EMC grew its business by 21% over the same period last year amid increased demand for private cloud solutions.

Bob Savage, Vice President and Managing Director of EMC’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Cork, said the results showed hybrid cloud computing is gaining momentum.

"EMC is well positioned to help customers in Ireland and across the world accelerate their journey to the cloud, helping IT leaders to store, manage, protect and analyse their most valuable asset - information - in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way," he said.

"Through our COE, EMC’s largest manufacturing site outside the US, we are helping customers to discover the value of big data and transform IT into a source of greater efficiency, agility and control,"said Mr Savage.
