Barroso confirms Commission is considering eurobond proposals

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has confirmed the Commission will publish proposals on eurobonds as part of a solution to the eurozone crisis.

"We need an even greater integration of our economic and budgetary policies," he said.

"…On eurobonds, I want to confirm that the Commission will soon present options for the introduction of eurobonds."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been steadfast in her refusal to agree to eurobonds being issued, despite popular support from the institutions.

Chancellor Merkel has been actively quelling fears of a further eurozone disaster and has persuaded her parliament that European economic integration is necessary for the common currency to work.
