Air China, one of the country’s three major state-owned airlines, said today its first-half profit fell 12% as surging fuel costs offset a double-digit rise in revenue.

Profit for the six months ended June 30 was 4bn yuan (€433.88m), or 0.33 yuan (3.5c) per share, the Beijing-based carrier said.
