ISEQ down almost 4.5%

The Irish Stock Exchange followed international trends today as the ISEQ Index plunged 110.75 points to 2,395.73.

The financials were unchanged, except for AIB, which inched up 1c to 7c.

This modest gain was very much the exception however, in a day of heavy losses across a number of sectors.

In the construction sector, CRH fell 30c to €11.92. Kingspan lost 20c to €5.65 and Grafton was 10c down at €2.55.

The food and drink sector fared even worse however, with Kerry Group the main faller, down €1.14 to €24.65. C&C and Glanbia both fell 20c to finish in €3.05 and €3.87 respectively.

The energy sector also suffered, with Tullow Oil losing 84c to €10.90 and Dragon Oil down 56c to €4.89.

Other heavy losses on the day included DCC (down 90c to €16.70), First Derivatives (down 70c to €5.90), Elan (down 61c to €6.19) and Paddy Power (down 53c to €30.35).
