UK's stagnating economy confirmed

The UK’s economy failed to show significant growth over the past two quarters as household spending worsened, official figures confirmed today.

Gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.5% in the first quarter of 2011, according to the Office for National Statistics, which left its previous estimate of economic growth unchanged.
