Greyhound Recycling and Recovery has strengthened its position as the largest recycling company in Ireland having completed a deal to buy South Dublin County Council’s waste collection business.

The deal, which is the largest ever purchase of a household waste collection business in the country, will see the Clondalkin based company expand its services to collect domestic and recyclable waste from over 70,000 homes in south county Dublin.

The company currently provides waste management services to more than 500,000 customers across 12 local authorities and also operates renewable business interests across 15 countries throughout Europe and Asia.

“We are delighted to announce that Greyhound Recycling and Recovery have bought the household waste collection service from South Dublin County Council area after a competitive sales process. This fits perfectly with our strategy to develop our business, both nationally and internationally,” said Brian Buckley, Managing Director of the company.

“We have significantly improved our market share and we have positioned the company to offer better value and service to our customers and to recycle more of their waste than any other operator in the market,” he added.

Greyhound Recycling and Recovery confirmed that it will not increase the cost of bin collections in South Dublin County Council, that it will honour all existing waivers and that it will immediately introduce reduced pricing options and packages to beat any other operator in the market.

“We can offer customers greater value for money because we can recycle more of their waste. We send less material to landfill than any other operator in the market and we believe that our customers should benefit from the higher recycling rates that we achieve,” said Mr. Buckley.

“We have also developed our business by introducing information technologies which enable us to deliver bespoke service packages to our customers. Our ability to guarantee greater value and reduced prices to customers is simply unbeatable having completed this deal,” he added.

The new bin collection service will commence from Monday, April 4, next with bin collection days and payment methods remaining unchanged for customers throughout the South Dublin County Council area.

More than 50 staff currently employed by South Dublin County Council will be redeployed within the Council or transferred to Greyhound Recycling and Recovery in compliance with TUPE legislation.

Greyhound currently employs over 350 people.
