BA approve Spanish merger

British Airways' shareholders have approved a £5bn merger between their airline and Spanish carrier Iberia.

Iberia shareholders are meeting in Madrid today, and are also expected to give the link-up the go-ahead.

The merged airline will have more than 57,000 staff, around 400 aircraft, and carry around 57 million passengers a year.

One of the biggest benefits for BA is the access to South American routes.
