Airlines call for compensation for €1.3bn ash-cloud losses

Airlines around the world have lost an estimated $1.7bn (€1.3bn) because of the flight ban caused by Iceland's volcanic ash cloud.

The head of the International Air Transport Association is calling the situation "devastating" and has urged European governments to examine ways to compensate airlines.
