Shares in Irish banks were on the rise today as investors digested radical plans to overhaul the sector unveiled yesterday by Finance Minister Brian Lenihan and regulatory authorities.

Bank of Ireland was the main riser, up 36c or 28.11% to €1.65 by 11.30am, with AIB adding 5c or 3.61% to €1.29 and Irish Life & Permanent up 18c to €3.02.
