IFA: Below-cost prices threaten fresh food production

The Irish Farmers Association is warning fresh food production in Ireland is under threat due to the below-cost prices paid by retailers.

The IFA said, on average, primary producers receive only a third of the price paid for fresh produce by consumers in shops.

The association said farm families are struggling to survive on incomes below the cost of production.

IFA President John Bryan is demanding a fair share of the retail margin for farmers.
