Hair salon wound up over failure to pay tax bill

The High Court has made an order winding up a company that operate a Dublin city centre hair salon due to its failure to pay a tax bill of more than €200,000.

Today at the High Court Ms Justice Mary Laffoy made an order winding up 'Reds on the Green Ltd' with a registered address of Altan House, Herbert Street, Dublin 2 after being satisfied that the company was insolvent and unable to pay its debts.

The Judge also approved the appointment of Mr Padraic Bermingham of Damastown Way, Damastown Industrial Estate, Dublin 15 as liquidator of the company. The judge further directed the company's directors Alan Bruton and Monica Borj file a statement of affairs.

Dermot Cahill BL for the petitioner, the Revenue Commissioners, told the court that on October 13 2009 his client had made demand to the company for an amount of more than €207,000 for unpaid VAT, PAYE, PRSI plus interest.

Counsel said that the money had not been paid to Revenue, and as it result it had petitioned the High Court for an order to have the company wound up. Counsel added that the petition had been advertised in the national media.

The court heard that the company, which was incorporated in November 2000, was set up to operate and manage a hairdressing and beauty salon.
