Retailers are warning they will apply for funding to protect 21,000 jobs in the sector.

Retailers are warning they will apply for funding to protect 21,000 jobs in the sector.

It comes as the €250m Employment Subsidy Scheme - originally intended for exporters - is opened up to all industries.

Up to 95% of retailers say they will apply to the scheme.

Chief Executive of Retail Excellence Ireland David Fitzsimons said more funding is needed as things are looking very bleak in the sector.
