HP announces over 50 jobs for Galway

Computer manufacturer Hewlett Packard is to expand its R&D operation in Ballybrit, Galway with an €11m investment that will create over 50 jobs, it was confirmed today.

The investment will involve two different projects, one establishing Galway as HP's centre of expertise in the area of 'cloud computing' - the online provision of computer applications - and a second focused on process innovation.

"Ireland has a proven ability to satisfy the needs of highly inventive and technologically advanced companies and these projects are an excellent further endorsement of our well established reputation," said Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan, announcing the investment.

The Tánaiste described the news as "a major vote of confidence" in HP's Galway facility and said it was gratifying to see yet another HP investment in Ireland after the company announced its intention to create 500 high-skilled jobs at its facility in Leixlip.

HP Ireland Managing Director Martin Murphy said the investment was "yet another example of the Irish knowledge economy in action".

HP employs over 4,000 people in Leixlip, Dublin, Galway and Belfast.
