Hynes appointed chairperson of Bord Gáis

Bord Gáis has today announced the appointment of Rose Hynes as chairperson by Minister Eamon Ryan.

Hynes, a lawyer, has served on the board of Bord Gáis since June 2006 and is a member of its Finance and Investment/Infrastructure Committees.

Former Bord Gáis Chairman, Ed O’Connell, retired in June 2009, having served as chairman since 2001.

"I would like to thank Ed O’Connell for his services to the state at the helm of Bord Gáis," said Minister Ryan.

"The company now reaches over 630,000 gas customers and has recently expanded into the domestic electricity market. Bord Gáis’ work is of strategic importance to Ireland as well as the customers it serves.

"I know the company has great ambitions in the area of clean energy and wish them continued success. I know Rose Hynes has both the acumen and the drive to lead Bord Gáis into the future."
