Fifty-four percent of Irish consumers are concerned about food imports from outside the EU, according to a cross-border survey by Safefood.

Fifty-four percent of Irish consumers are concerned about food imports from outside the EU, according to a cross-border survey by Safefood.

The food safety promotion body says one quarter of respondents were also concerned about imports from within the EU's 27 member states.

The main concerns related to standards of food production, food quality and the perception that the distance travelled increases the risk of contamination.
