Many employers are planning to rein in their investment in staff pension benefits while they deal with the economic downturn, according to a survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The company says more than 40% of respondents who operate defined-benefit schemes were considering reducing member benefits by imposing pay freezes, removing pension increases and/or stopping future service benefits.
