After months of living on government loans, carmaker Chrysler finally has succumbed to bankruptcy, pinning its future on a reorganisation and plans to build cleaner cars through an alliance with Italian carmaker Fiat.

After months of living on government loans, carmaker Chrysler finally has succumbed to bankruptcy, pinning its future on a reorganisation and plans to build cleaner cars through an alliance with Italian carmaker Fiat.

Chrysler said it will close all its plants starting on Monday and they will stay closed until the company comes out of bankruptcy.
