Allied Irish Banks said today that it would need to shore up its capital strength by another €1.5bn on top of existing plans for a multi-billion Government bail-out.

Allied Irish Banks said today that it would need to shore up its capital strength by another €1.5bn on top of existing plans for a multi-billion Government bail-out.

The group said it would be looking at asset sales to raise cash to boost its balance sheet further after talks with the Irish Government determined the current €3.5bn State rescue would not be enough.
