The ISEQ index of Irish shares plummetted 64 points to 1,986.63 by 11am.
AIB dropped 6c off its share price to 52c with Bank of Ireland down 2c to 28c per share. Irish Life and Permanent had the worst performance, falling 15c to 80c.
