Business event hears call for govt funding commitment to Cork

One of Cork's business leaders has called on the Government to re-commit to infrastructural developments in the region to ensure Cork's continued success as "a key southern gateway".

Cork Chamber of Commerce president Joe Gantly was speaking at the Chamber's fifth annual conference, entitled 'Corks Renaissance - A Vision for the Future'.

He said: "It is imperative government funding is available for crucial projects such as Cork Docklands, in addition to critical road infrastructure projects such as the N28 route to Ringaskiddy, which has the potential to open up 400 acres for further foreign direct investment."

Managing director of building firm O'Flynn Construction Michael O’Flynn said the correct marketing of Cork as a medium-sized city was key in developing the city and region.

O’Flynn Construction are the developers of the high-end Elysian apartments in Cork city centre.

Meanwhile, Thomas Crosbie Holdings managing director Anthony Dinan acknowledged market conditions were tough and stressed the Cork-based media group's commitment to the city. He added that "bad times allow good companies...to question the old ways and see new possibilities".
