More flexible approach needed to pensions - IAPF

The Government has been encouraged to take a more flexible approach to the pensions system.

The Irish Association of Pension Funds has suggested a number of changes which it says would make the system easier to understand.

They are advocating an approach of partial retirement; whereby people could work on a part-time basis after the age of 65 and still receive a pension.

Jerry Moriarty, director of policy for the IAPF, said the option of working for a few more years should be made easier for those who wish to do so.

Under the current system, once you reach the age of 65, you can only receive the full State pension if you stop working.
