Edina wins €4m energy contracts for Dublin's Terminal 2
Edina Dublin has been awarded two separate contracts valued at just less than €4m for the supply of a 3MWE combined heat and power plant (CHP) and two 2904KVA back-up diesel generator sets for Dublin airport’s new Terminal 2 energy centre.
The latest contract through L Lynch is for the supply of a 3,000KWE system powered by a Deutz TCG2032 V12 medium speed gas engine. The TCG2032 operates at 1000rpm and offers 41.9% electrical efficiency.
The CHP plant will provide 3,000KW of electrical power along with 3,000KW of thermal power in the form of hot water to the new terminal utility load.
The switch to medium speed promises to yield higher availability (typically >98%) and reliability due to reduced stress on the engine and less resulting vibration.
The Deutz TCG2032 weighs nearly 50 tonnes, each cylinder head and turbocharger weighs nearly a tonne and the engine holds enough engine oil to service most cars about 500 times.
“Edina was successful in securing both contracts amid stiff competition due to our ability to be flexible and respond to the customer’s extremely tight delivery schedule and onerous technical demands,” said Edina Managing Director Paul Gibbons,
“We are the largest generator service company in Ireland with 90+ permanent employees and this fact was not lost on the consultants, Arup Consulting Engineers, or the engineering staff at DAA who will own the plant for the next 15 years when the consultants and contractors are long gone.”
