UK: 120 jobs axed at Fujitsu firm
Japanese manufacturing firm Fujitsu is to cut 120 jobs from one of its UK centres and transfer work abroad, workers were told today.
The switch of work to the United States will hit the site in Birmingham, which makes telecoms equipment.
Bill McClory, deputy general secretary of the Communication Workers Union, said: “We condemn this move by Fujitsu and will fight the transfer of jobs abroad.”
Fujitsu Telecommunications said it was proposing to consolidate its manufacturing activities at a site in Texas while retaining its assembly, test and other activities at its plant in Solihull.
The move will allow the company to manage demand for its products more effectively while enabling it to take better advantage of the “synergies and efficiencies” available within the group.
